Buying Guide
A sculpt is when a creator makes a copy of the official file using a 3D sculpting tool like Blender. Usually they try to make a 1:1 copy - but sometimes they take some artistic liberties with it. So the % rating is based on how close the sculpt is to 1:1 - 90% is basically a 1:1 - we rate it 90% because it's not going to be perfect - there will be some slight variations to it since it's a copy. 85% is a really close 1:1 - most people will see a 85% on a gaming table and assume it's an official model unless they are VERY familiar with the official mode. An 80% starts to get a little further away - it'll obviously be that model but it may have some different poses or accessories. 65% is an artist re-interpretation of the model - we only include really interesting ones and they'll always be bonus models - we won't list something that isn't a 1:1 or close to it.
The 3D scans are of the official models so - by default - they are 1:1s so the question is "how good is the scan" so the rating for the scan is 1-10 (really 7-10). A 10 scan is something that's near-perfect but they are rare because they require the creator to sculpt over the scan to make things sharper or more defined which is very time consuming and usually not worth the effort. But a 10 scan is something you could use for display models. A 9 scan - the most common - is a good quality scan - good for most people who just want to print/paint/collect/play the game. It's impossible to tell the difference between a painted official plastic and a painted 9 scan for most people. An 8 is something to grab if you're wanting a playable model - it'll look fine painted and on the gaming table but will have some quality issues if you hold it two inches from your face. A 7 should only be purchased if you really want an official scan vs finding a proxy.
Keep in mind that we don't have exclusive distribution rights to these files. While most (about 90%) are not available on the public internet, some ARE publicly available - and some are available for free elsewhere.
The main reason to purchase from NerdEmpire is convenience - so you don't have to spend hours chasing down files that have already been removed or endlessly downloading poor quality proxies hoping you'll get something usable. If saving money is more important to you than saving time, we highly recommend you search for files on the public internet before purchasing anything from us.
If you have any questions about the files - you're concerned you may already own them from elsewhere - just contact us and we'll be happy to help you out before you purchase anything.
